Targeting
Show Skavelo where it helps, to the people it’s for
The widget shows on every page, to every visitor, until you decide otherwise. Keep it off your login page, show it only to trial users, or start with a quarter of your visitors while your team watches the first conversations.
Set it up in one place
Step 1
Pick the pages
Every page, only these, or all except these. /billing/* covers every billing page; /login is just that page.
Step 2
Pick the people
Everyone, signed in or signed out. Add rules like plan is trial, starter or plan is not enterprise, on any trait your app passes.
Step 3
Narrow it further
Everywhere, only some countries or all except some, and all devices, desktop or phones.
Step 4
Roll it out
Show it to a share of visitors first, in steps of 5%, and raise it as you gain confidence.
The details
Rules in a sentence
The Targeting tab sums up your rules in plain words at the top, so anyone on the team can see who gets the widget. Save, and the new rules apply on the next page load without a change to your code.
Check a page first
Test a path against your rules before saving. The answer is Shows here or Hidden here.
Steady rollouts
Each visitor gets the same result on every visit, so nobody sees the widget appear and disappear.
Follows single-page apps
Rules are checked again as users move around your app, without a page reload.
One snippet, several agents
With more than one agent, one snippet can show each page the agent whose targeting matches it, such as a billing agent on /billing/*.
One agent, several sites
Run one agent on your app, marketing site and help center. Each suggestion can be set to show on one site or several, so visitors on your homepage and signed-in users see different prompts.
Questions
Set it up with Targeting in the help center.
- How is this different from suggestions?
- Targeting decides whether the widget appears at all. Suggestions are the prompts above it, and each has its own rules for where it shows.
- How does Skavelo know a user’s plan or role?
- From what your app passes when it identifies a signed-in user, with Skavelo.identify or the React provider. Anything you pass as a tag or trait can be used in a rule.
- What happens when a visitor’s country can’t be told?
- The country comes from the visitor’s connection. When it can’t be determined, for example behind some VPNs, Only these hides the widget and All except these shows it.
- Which plans include targeting?
- Every plan, Free included.
Start small, watch the first conversations, then show it to everyone.
